Federico Mazzacuva

Team Trakker

Born in Florence in 1988, Federico began angling at an early age under the supervision of his grandfather whilst on family holidays. These first trips were to the beautiful Arno and Serchio river systems, deep in the Italian countryside. It was on the banks on the Arno that first contact with carp – dark and powerful wildies – was made. It was love-at-first-sight, and these early encounters aged 11 kickstarted a powerful interest in the modern carp scene, just then starting to emerge in Italy. Aided by specialist magazines and patient friends, Federico learned quickly, and within a few years began competing in carp ‘matches’ at a national level. In 2006, he began an ongoing collaboration with the leading Italian magazine Tutto Carpa. In 2007, he became a lead consultant to Big Fish (Italian distributor of Trakker, Aqua, Cygnet, Solar and Gardner, amongst others), where he is responsible for co-ordinating field-testers, medias and product development. His professional training and experience as a photographer and film-maker have led him to become the go-to national reference point for the production of angling films in Italy, nowadays he even runs his own film company called Waterfall Visuals specialising in proper wedding cinema. These comments sum up Fede’s approach and attitude to carp angling:

***I do not usually discuss or publish the weight of my catches, and, to be honest with you, the size of the carp I target does not matter to me a great deal. If I do weigh a carp, it’s more to do with the personal (and private) satisfaction I get when landing a target fish, or to enable me to monitor a specimen carp’s growth rate and health. I love the shape, colour and scaling of my carp, but, above all, the memory of the situation and circumstances under which I caught them.”
